Making a friend helps going to the gym!

Don’t be afraid to say hello and smile to someone at the gym. Most people I run into are all business, get it done and get out. Me? I like to talk to others, it makes working out seem a whole lot faster.
Last year when I started going to my local YMCA, I would walk in and smile at a pretty woman with red hair. She would look at me, but not really engage. I was persistent and slowly, it became a “hi”, then a “hi, how are you”, then “gee, what did you do over the weekend?” Today, Marie is one of my very good friends. She and I share our daily lives with each other and encourage each other. She encouraged me to run my very first 5K, the Jingle Bell Run in Cincinnati. While I think that may be my last run for a while, Marie is on to training for the next race!
